The audit

Match Type Coverage Check

After the audit

What to do with your results

A keyword audit is only valuable if it changes what you do. Here's the priority order:

1
Fix cannibalization first. Same keyword in multiple ad groups is the most expensive structural problem. It splits Quality Score and drives up your CPCs on every auction, every day. Consolidate or add negative keywords to block cross-group interference.
2
Close negative keyword gaps. Broad and Phrase keywords bleeding into the wrong ad groups inflate costs and muddy attribution. Add the specific negatives the audit identifies — not a generic negative list.
3
Remove true duplicates. Same keyword + same match type in multiple places gains you nothing. It just creates audit complexity and slightly inflates your keyword count. Clean the list and reimport.
4
Fill match type gaps — selectively. Not every keyword needs all three match types. Exact-only is fine when your search term data shows it converts cleanly. Add Broad only when you have Smart Bidding with enough conversion data to manage it.

Frequently asked questions

What does a Google Ads keyword audit check?

A complete Google Ads keyword audit checks four areas: match type coverage (are you missing Exact, Phrase, or Broad variants?), keyword cannibalization (are multiple ad groups competing for the same searches?), negative keyword gaps (are Broad keywords bleeding into the wrong ad groups?), and duplicate keywords (are the same keywords appearing multiple times, wasting budget?).

How long does the keyword audit take?

The core audit (match type coverage, cannibalization, negative gaps) runs in seconds after you paste your keyword list. The full four-tool audit typically takes 5–10 minutes including reviewing results and downloading action items.

Do I need to share my Google Ads account?

No. All tools run entirely in your browser. You paste or upload a keyword list exported from Google Ads and the analysis runs locally — no data is ever sent to a server. You can verify this by opening your browser's network tab during analysis.

How do I export my keyword list from Google Ads?

In Google Ads, go to Keywords → Search Keywords. Click the download button (⬇) and select CSV. The export includes Keyword, Match type, Ad group, and Campaign columns — all of which our tools auto-detect. You can also paste directly from the keywords grid.

How often should I run a keyword audit?

Monthly is a good baseline for active campaigns. For accounts spending over $10K/month, quarterly at minimum. After any major restructure (new ad groups, new campaigns, adding Broad Match), run the audit within the first week to catch cannibalization before it compounds.
